Media Release December 8 2008: Feral camels in the spotlight
Media are invited to the launch of "Managing the impacts of feral camels in Australia: a new way of doing business" by Jan Ferguson, Managing Director of the Desert Knowledge Cooperative Research Centre, at 10 am on Wednesday 10th December, at the Marque Hotel, 102 Northbourne Avenue, Canberra.
“More than a million camels are roaming through Australia,” says Ms Ferguson. “Most Australians are unaware of the devastation, and the cost to the whole community caused by these imported pests. A massive reduction in the population of feral camels has become unavoidable. The report spells out the extensive damage that camels do – and what we can do about it.”
The Marque Hotel is the venue for a conference bringing together more than seventy camel experts from around Australia and overseas on Wednesday 10th December.
The Report was prepared by a team led by Dr Glenn Edwards and Professor Murray McGregor of the
Desert Knowledge CRC.
